چکیده

Context. Radio active galactic nuclei (AGN) are traditionally separated into two Fanaroff-Riley (FR) type classes, edge-brightened FRII sources or edge-darkened FRI sources. With the discovery of a plethora radio AGN different shapes, this dichotomy is becoming too simplistic in linking structure to physical properties AGN, their hosts, and environment. Aims. We probe large-scale environment faintest FR population date, link them structure. use VLA-COSMOS Large Project at 3 GHz (3 VLA-COSMOS), with resolution sensitivity 0.″75 2.3 μJy beam −1 explore down levels. Methods. classified objects as FRIs, FRIIs, hybrid FRI/FRII based on surface-brightness distribution along Our control sample was jet-less/compact (COM AGN), which show excess emission exceeding what coming from star-formation alone; excludes FRs. The largest angular projected sizes were measured by machine-learning algorithm also hand, following parametric approach classification. Eddington ratios calculated using scaling relations X-rays, we included jet power luminosity probe. Furthermore, investigated host (star-formation ratio, stellar mass, morphology), incidence within X-ray galaxy groups COSMOS, density fields cosmic-web probes COSMOS. Results. composed 59 32 FRI/FRIIs, 39 1818 COM 0.03 ≤ z 6. On average, have similar luminosities ( L ∼ 10 23 W Hz sr ), spanning range 21−26 , they lie median redshift 1. linear size FRIIs 106.6 36.9 238.2 kpc, larger than that FRI/FRIIs FRIs factor 2−3. smaller 30 value 1.7 1.5 4.7 kpc. ratio 0.006 0.005 0.007 2.5 less 2 higher FRI/FRII. When included, increase 12 15, respectively. FRs reside majority massive quenched hosts M * > 10.5 ⊙ older episodes linked lower group temperatures, suggesting radio-mode quenching. Regardless structure, found all types environments (group cluster, filaments, field). Conclusions. By relating luminosity, size, environment, find broad overlap populations. discuss need for classification scheme, expands classic taking consideration rather frequency-, sensitivity- resolution-dependent. This point crucial advent current future all-sky surveys.

The VLA - COSMOS 3 GHz large project : the cosmic star - formation history since

We make use of the deep Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) COSMOS radio observations at 3 GHz to infer radio luminosity functions of star-forming galaxies up to redshifts of z ∼ 5 based on approximately 6 000 detections with reliable optical counterparts. This is currently the largest radio-selected sample available out to z ∼ 5 across an area of 2 square degrees with a sensitivity of rms ≈ ...

The properties of powerful radio sources at 90 GHz

We have observed a small sample of powerful double radio sources (radio galaxies and quasars) at frequencies around 90 GHz with the BIMA millimetre array, with the intention of constraining the resolved high-frequency spectra of radio galaxies. When combined with other sources we have previously observed and with data from the BIMA archive, these observations allow us for the first time to make...

High redshift FRII radio sources : large - scale X - ray environment

We investigate the properties of the environment around 20 powerful radio galaxies and quasars at redshifts between 0.45 and 1. Using XMM-Newton and Chandra observations we probe the spatial distribution and the temperature of the cluster gas. We find that more than 60 per cent of powerful radio sources in the redshift range of our sample lie in a cluster of X-ray luminosity greater than 10 erg...

EVN observations of eleven GHz - Peaked - Spectrum radio sources at 2 . 3 / 8 . 4 GHz

We present results of EVN observations of eleven GHz-Peaked-Spectrum (GPS) radio sources at 2.3/8.4 GHz. These sources are from the classical " bright " GPS source samples with peak flux densities > 0.2 Jy and spectral indices α < −0.2 (S ∝ ν −α) in the optically thick regime of their convex spectra. Most of the target sources did not have VLBI images at the time this project started. The aim o...

The Large-Scale Distribution of Radio Sources

We have used a sample of 263 Parkes half-Jansky at-spectrum radio sources to measure the spatial correlation function of radio galaxies and radio-loud quasars on scales up to 1000h ?1 Mpc. We do not detect any clustering in the sample. If any undetected clustering is described by a power-law spatial correlation function ((r) = (r=r 0) ?1:8), we can rule out clustering with scales r 0 50 h ?1 Mp...
